Corn cob blasting off the over 20 year old solid stain from a 50 year old cedar log cabin in Ontario, Canada. The whole job on this small cabin took only 6 hours including clean-up and left the site clean and the logs ready for stain. Costs for corn cob blasting seem to range between .00 and .00 per square foot.

I bought a Clematis plant and I noticed the outer part of the woody stem is splitting, is the plant doomed?

I bought a Clematis ‘Etoile Violette’ plant at a “home improvement” store. The poor things were left in full sun without water and were very dry…most looked crisp and yellow, however one (the “lucky” (?) plant I spotted) was still green and looked to be doing much better than the rest. They were marked down to $3 so I thought I would try to give it a home in the new garden I was making. It is now 4 days after I bought the poor plant, I have watered it everyday and have kept it in partial sun/shade. It doesnt seem to be doing WORSE…however when I finally got the time to plant it today I noticed that the woody stem of the plant was split in a few spots…I know this isnt a GOOD thing…but is the plant doomed to die a slow death!?!

Note: I live in Zone 7b…it has been HOT (in the 90′s) and dry the last week. However, it is supposed to rain for the next 24 hours and then the temps are to drop back into the 70′s-80′s…will this help the plant?

Where to live in Chicago (Work near O’hare but would like to enjoy the city)?

I’m moving to Chicago in the next two weeks for a new job. The job is located near one of the L stations near O’hare. I’m single and 30. Where should I live so that my job isn’t too difficult or long of a commute and I’m either in a cool/interesting, safe (no gang issues) part of the city or in an area that is not too far from a cool/interesting, safe area. I’d like to be as close as possible to a blue line stop. I’m looking for a 2 bedroom apartment/flat to rent.

Also, would living in Portage Park or Jefferson Park be considered lame?

All ideas are welcome.

pay off a mtg for a friend. Does friend pay taxes on money that went to pay off debt? Assume unrelated.?

If a friend A is paying off another B friend’s mortgage with proceeds from the sale of his A house, does B have to pay any taxes at all on this? Assume that in the first scenario B keeps his home in his own name after it’s paid off and the friend who’s paying off the mortgage has no benefit except living there. Part 2: Friend A decides to marry the home owner B. Does it make sense to marry before or after friend A pays off the mortgage. Part 3. Friend A decides instead to merely be part owner of the now fully paid off house. It will soon be placed in both their names. The tenancy is joint: whoever dies first leaves their share of the house to the survivor. Should this be done before person A pays off Person B’s home since B’s home is mortgaged and does it make any cents to do this. Part 3. Friend B tells friend A to put the house in A’s name ONLY. A asks why not just buy it outright for what’s owed on the mortgage. B says fine, but what are the tax advantages either way?
