I am asking help for my friend who has a BiPolar adult child. They have been through every possible drug, hospitalization and finally ECT treatment for this adult for the past 15 years. This adult is in the hospital every month for depression and sucide tendenacies. Does anyone know of a “camp” or place that my friend can place this adult for long term help. Nothing seems to be working. The child is in a “group home” but has not shown any improvement in the past 5 years. It is getting worse and they do not know what else to do or where to turn. The medical field just wants to increase drug dosage and seeing their child “doped” up is worse then the institutions they go to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
There is not a better parent team then this one. They have supported this child, they cannot make this child feel loved if this child will not accept it. I agree with the eating habits, counseling… it has all been done. The ECT was the final ray of hope, but the child is back in the hospital… I am just grasping for straws for this family, i guess.
Yes, the family attends a support group for family with depression. This has helped them alot, but the end result is help for the child.
