Hi. Thank you for taking the time to read my question. For many years, I have been curious about pharma sales, but many insiders have told me to consider (medical) capital equipment sales. What are the pros and cons of such jobs.
Additionally, I am concerned about my ability to land either position, as I lack the 2 years of outside sales experience that is standard industrywide. I do, however, have two bachelor degrees, one in nursing (BSN) and one in communication. I am currenty working as a travel nurse and making over 100k/year, but I still belive I can reach higher levels of success in sales. I am very outgoing, hardworking, and especially competative, so I know that once I am given a chance I will do well.
I am also ready, willing, and able to relocate and travel.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.
Go with the Pharma sales. If you can get an entry level job it is easy to move around. The “head hunters” will find you. The company cars and expense accounts make life great, plus you deal with some bright people.

I’m not in the US…. so take my ideas with a few grains of salt. But…. I would think that with your nursing background that you can do really well in med capital equip sales. You’ll be able to apply some personal experience in your pitch, and that will add to your credibility as a sales person who can be trusted.
What I’ve heard about pharma sales is that the way the sales side of that industry works is in flux, and you don’t want to find yourself running down the fast track of a path that’s might soon become obsolete.
