I was employed by a major company in Georgia in their sales division (before today). I was on vacation for a week due to my family was having some problems. I came back, I gave a two weeks notice and said that i was moving back home which was in another state. I had taken the rest of the week off and on the day that I gave the notice, I went home to check my work email and noticed the password and user ID were not working. on Friday I had to attend a baby shower at the corporate office for a friend and everyone was saying “I thought you were going to another company” and I told them all no and that I had just put in my notice. I went to work today and could not get on the computer to log in or clock in, i went to talk to the asst. location manager and he said that individuals in the sales divisions are not allowed to work trought their 2 weel or what ever notice they had given and i did not see that in the policy hand book. Is this illegal? can i file a complaint with the DOL?

Yes, it is legal if it was given to you in the handbook. It is a security issue and they can do this. Check your handbook and see if they are going to pay you for that two weeks even though they don’t want you on the premises – many companies do.

just tell them that you gave the legal notice and that they should pay you for your time even if they don’t want you to work, they do have the right to protect themselves also. if they feel you are disgruntaled then they woundn’t want you to be able to give out information

Since you are in sales and you gave your two weeks notice what they have done is perfectly legal. Although your manager should have said something the day you gave your notice.
But many companies that involve sales people when given two weeks notice will go ahead and terminate their employment.
You have done nothing wrong and were planning on moving anyway so just move you move date up and suck it up.

Georgia is an employment-at-will state, and unfortunately one that offers employees the least protection. They do not even recognize the three exceptions to E-A-W under the law, which are public policy exception (e.g. you told that your employer dumped illegal chemicals); implied contract (e.g. your boss said, “as long as your performance improves you won’t be fired”); or good faith (e.g. your performance was acceptable, andn they just decided to fire you for no reason at all, or not for “cause”).

Yes this is legal, no you can’t file a complaint with the DOL as you gave notice to the employer that you were quitting, the company did not fire you. What you need to do now is find out if you need to remove all of your belongings and collect your final check from H.R. Turn in all company issued equipment and materials. (Keys, cell phones, customer lists, lap tops or any other issued stuff)
