I have bought a car but not the plates can i drive it home?

just bought a car from ebay but it has private plates on it which the seller don't want to sell with it. He is going to put on old number plates that were on them when he bought them. How do i go about collecting it and driving it home as the log book and tax disc wont match.
Is it the seller responsibility to get new log book and tax disc or is it mine?

Its not a big deal. Just make sure you have a bill of sale in the car showing that you just bought it. Then, go straight to the DMV (or wherever it is in your state) and register it.

wouldnt drive it home you will be braking the law .seller should have contacted dvla and sorted the documentation before he sold the car.

well I'm not too sure where you live it could be different state to state. License plates in Montana are not transferred with the title. You only need the title to register the car, and transfer it into your name. You would want to talk to your local DMV and the one where the car is. They should be able to tell you what you will need.
