how can i rent an apartment with bad credit and a dependent?

when your spose has ruined your credit and you still have to provide a place for your disabled son to live, are there landlords who will help you? Hopefully not your local Housing Athority, due to the fact that all of their properties are drug infested and in just plain bad neighborhoods.

  1. yes- my landlord is a 98 year old woman who wanted nothing to do with housing etc. so she let me move into my 2 bedroom gigantic apt for $700 a month if I promised to not have parties (im 23 and single) and to pay cash every 1st of the month. If you find a multi family home where you deal with an actual person you should have better luck. good luck!!

I suggest calling a credit counsellor, not only to start the process of fixing your credit, but they are typically good resources for advice in matters like that. It may be that the landlords will ask for a larger damage deposit or ask for the last months' rent up front (as it varies from place to place whether landlords collect last months rent or not).

Also, if you think the landlord may be a more sympathetic person, don't be afraid to lay out some of the details about the impact your spouse had on your credit, but that you are working to re-establish yourself and just need a break.
