Rule of thumb: The amount you pay for rent should not exceed 1/3 of your income.
Ex. If you bring home $900 p/month you should only rent a room or apartment for $300 p/month
Always have at least two months worth of security deposit ready to put down for your apartment. If you can show a landlord that you have the ability to save money to cover at least two months worth of rent…they’ll probably give you the opportunity to rent from them.
I’m a landlord and I have no problem renting to first time renters, people with bad credit, etc. as long as they have 2 months sec. deposit.
